Eric P. Hanson

A loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend;

Eric P. Hanson, 45, of Lowell, a well-known local business and community leader, passed away unexpectedly on Friday June 8, 2018.

He was the beloved husband of Jennifer (Maguire) Hanson, who survives him.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, January 26, 1973, the beloved son of Eric W. “Rick” and Martha (Reardon) Hanson, he attended Chelmsford Schools and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School.

Eric graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1995 as an Academic All American and Captain of the Golf Team. He continued his studies at American University attaining a Master’ Degree in Corporate Public Communications

After his time in Washington, he came home to join his father and family in business and eventually became the President and COO of the D.J. Reardon Company.

Following the transfer of the company, Eric, an entrepreneur by nature, founded the KLIN Groupe, a successful spirits and wine company which later expanded to include cigars. As Executive Chairman, he created and introduced Hammer and Sickle Vodka, which was made in Russia, to the U.S. Market. He later followed that up with wine, cigar and rum products under the umbrella of the KLIN Groupe in Lowell.

A highly respected businessman, Eric served as a Trustee and member of the Investment Committee of Circle Health, as a Corporator of Lowell Five Bank, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro and a past board member of the Lowell Plan.

Active in the Greater Lowell charitable and civic community, he was a former Chairman of the Board and Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell. A philanthropist at heart, he and his family supported several non-profit organizations throughout Greater Lowell.

A member of Vesper Country Club, he had a passion and skill for golf and enjoyed playing with his father, his daughters and his friends and was a member of several Lowell City Golf Teams.

A kind, generous and thoughtful person, with a sometimes irreverent sense of humor, Eric will be deeply missed by those who knew him best.

Besides his wife and parents, Eric, a dedicated and loving father, is survived by his two daughters Caroline E. Hanson and Ella M. Hanson both of Lowell, students at the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro; his sister Dr. Ellen M. Hanson and her husband Jamie Hawes of Hingham; his nephew Kai S. Hawes and niece Zoë E. My thoughts and prayers are with Eric’s family at this time. Eric and I served for a short time together as board members of the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce back in the early 90s. • Barry & Heidi Stein  - He will be missed!
    My wife Heidi and I are devastated to hear of the loss of Eric Hanson from Hammer + Sickle. For me, Eric was one of the funniest guys I ever met. He instantly lit up a room when he walked into to it. But it goes beyond that for us. When he heard my wife and I were getting married he offered to give us cases of vodka and cans of ginger beer for our signature drink a Moscow Mule. He also gave us a couple of boxes of cigars for the guests. Our wedding became sponsored by Hammer + Sickle. He then he went one step further by showing up to our wedding and blessing us with a very generous gift. He was truly a friend and it crushes my very soul to know he won't be coming to visit anymore at my job with a bag full of candy and a plethora of jokes that would leave my sides aching. I'll miss you dearly my friend.
  • Rudy  - On the loss of Eric
    I only met him once, but his personality was such that I probably won't forget that time for the rest of my life. The loss of Eric is a significant one, let alone so early in his life. He will be forever missed.
  • Rick and Marcia Considine  - Profound sympathy
    Losing such a talented and generous man to family, friends and the business community has totally saddened our hearts. At this time our only solace is to remember the opportunity he gave to our son and other employees at KLIN Groupe. He was a friend to them as well as a benefactor to the Lowell Charity groups. We send our condolences to all who were fortunate to have known him. Trust in the Lord and lean not to our own understanding.
