Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
Norma M. (Manchester) McQuaid, 97, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, died Sunday, August 26th at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond L. McQuaid. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts August 27, 1920, daughter of the late Royal J. and the late Ethel M. (Hayes) Manchester, she attended Lowell schools and was graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1938. Eager to pursue a career in nursing, she then went on to graduate from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Lowell, Rivier College in Nashua with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Boston University with a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration. Before retiring, Norma was employed as a Professor of Nursing at the University of Lowell (now known as U-Mass Lowell). Previously, she was Director of Nursing at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lowell for many years. Norma was an active volunteer and lecturer for the American Heart Association and was a member of a strategic team that established an ICU and Kidney Dialysis Units at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lowell. Among her many interests, she was an avid reader, enjoyed camping, knitting and sewing and loved all animals, especially dogs. She was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. She was a former longtime communicant of St. Rita’s Parish in Lowell. Norma is survived by a daughter Linda (McQuaid) (Thibeault) Janson and her husband William of Londonderry, NH; two grandsons Scott Thibeault and his wife Deborah of Lowell, MA and Shawn Thibeault and his partner Samantha of Dunstable, MA; and four great-grandchildren Tiffany, Takara, Joshua and Kyleigh Thibeault. She was also mother of the late Raymond D. McQuaid, grandmother of the late Justin L. Thibeault, great-grandmother of the late Kevin Bickmore and sister of the late Royal Manchester.
