James G. Sycovaris

 

Proud Korean Veteran, sports car enthusiast; 

 

James G. Sycovaris, 89, of Gilford, New Hampshire, formerly of Lowell, died Sunday September 30th 2018 at the Northwood Rehab and Health Care Center in Lowell, MA.

He was predeceased by his lovely wife, Helen (Athanasopoulos) Sycovaris to whom he was married for 52 years.

Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, James was the son of the late Gust and the late Anastasia (Velenzas) Sycovaris and received his grammar and High School education in Buffalo, NY.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator and received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

Jim had a passion for new cars, particularly sports cars, which resulted in a lifetime career of selling and working on cars. Prior to his retirement Jim was a Service Manager at a Chrysler auto dealership and was the former owner of Durabuild Transmission in Nashua New Hampshire.

Active with the church, he was a lifetime member of the Order of AHEPA.

Jim loved to travel during his retirement and playing doubles tennis with his wife Helen and friends.  He spent winters in their home in Santo Domingo and later in Fort Pierce, Florida as well as their home in Gilford, New Hampshire where they enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesaukee and socializing with friends.

Survived by many nieces and nephews, Jim was the brother of the late Daisey Karantonas and the late Christ Sycovaris.

Relatives and friends may call at the HELLENIC ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE HOLY TRINITY in LOWELL Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. followed by his Funeral Service in the Church at 11:00 o’clock.
