Henry C. Laferriere, Jr.

 

Beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend;

 

Henry C. Laferriere, Jr., 89, of Haverhill and Lowell, MA passed away peacefully at Penacook Place in Haverhill on Saturday December 15, 2018.

Henry was the former husband of the late Evelyn (Sayball) Laferriere.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on May 24, 1929, a son of the late Henry “Hank” Laferriere and the late Jeannette (Asselin) (Laferriere) Cormier, he was educated in the Lowell School System.

A proud member of the U.S. Navy, Henry served his country from 1947 until 1950 aboard the U.S.S. Rupertus.

Following his service in the Navy, he along with his late father and brothers, ran Laferriere Plumbing and Heating Company in Lowell for many years. 

A man of many interests, Henry enjoyed golf, gardening, dancing and flying planes.  For many years he played golf at the Billerica Country Club, where he also served as Club President in the 1990’s and at Longmeadow Country Club.  In addition, he had his pilot’s license for small planes and frequently flew out of Tewksbury Airport.

Henry is survived by his daughter Kathleen Gerow and her husband William Gerow of Marlborough, MA, Gwyn Coleman and her husband Kurtis Coleman of Pelham, NH; three grandchildren Craig Gerow, Ryan Coleman and Emily Coleman; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Gilbert Laferriere of Pelham, NH, David Laferriere of Lowell and a sister Beatrice “Sookie” RoeDerer of Santa Barbara, CA; his in-laws Virginia Laferriere and Robert Hargreaves; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his sisters: Gloria LaFlamme, Delores Soucier, Janet Hargreaves, Jeannie Campagnon, Arlene Normandin, and his brother Michael Laferriere.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in Lowell from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Thursday morning at ST. MICHAEL CHURCH IN Lowell at 10 o’clock followed by burial in the Westlawn Cemetery.     I remember Mr. Laferriere treating me and Gwyn to my first flight in an airplane on our 8th grade graduation. He treated me like a part of the family. I will always have fond memories of him. My condolences to his family.
