Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend

 

Heiner “Hank” Wais, 74, of Lowell, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 12th in Dracut. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann Richards who survives him.

Born in Stuttgart, Germany, March 7, 1944, he was a son of the late Ernst and the late Marta (Marchaus) Wais. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Lowell State Teacher’s College (now known as U/Mass Lowell) and a Master’s degree in Industrial Technology from Fitchburg State College.

Hank proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War.

Before retiring, Hank was employed by the City of Lowell as a school teacher at the Stoklosa School. In addition, he taught at Westford Academy. He also worked as a local general contractor.

A member of the LaFayette Club and the Dom Polski Club, both in Lowell, he was also a former soccer coach at Lowell High School and Westford Academy. In addition, Hank was also an organ donor.

In addition to his wife, Hank is survived by a daughter Brenda D. Edwards and her husband Curtis of NH; a grandson Grady A. Edwards who is in the U.S. Army also of NH; a granddaughter Emma M. Edwards of NH; a sister Waltraud “Trudy” Martignetti of Wilmington, MA; a brother Werner Wais and his wife Adid of Cottonwood, AZ; a grandnephew Cole M. Richards of Tyngsboro, MA; and many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Germany. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass to be celebrated on Saturday morning, December 29th at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in Lowell at 11 o’clock.
