Loving sister, aunt and godmother

Maria Filomena de Sousa, 94, a lifelong resident of Lowell until moving to Brookdale Assisted Living in Chelmsford in 2016, died Monday, December 17th at the Life Care Center of the Merrimack Valley in Billerica.
Born in Ponta Garca Sao Miguel Azores Portugal, August 10, 1924, she was a daughter and eldest child of the late Antonio Jose De Sousa and the late Maria da Conceição Medeiros. She immigrated to Lowell in 1969 and became a U.S. citizen in 1977.
Before retiring, she was employed as a Housekeeper at the former St. John’s Hospital (now known as Lowell General Hospital – Saints Campus). She was also employed as a Nanny for Walter and Naomi Sullivan and became a part of their family.
She attended the Immaculate Conception Church on a daily basis and loved family and cooking for those she loved.
Filomena is survived by two sisters Maria Sophia de Sousa and Conceição De Melo of Azores; her special godchild Sãozinha De Melo Ferreira; her extended family Naomi Sullivan and her children, Naomi Suzanne and David Callender, Helen Sullivan and José Soares, Kate and Daniel Critchett and her children, Monica Sullivan Cody and her children, and Michael Sullivan and his children; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also sister of the late Laurénio de Sousa, João Batista and Gilberta Feiteira and sister-in-law of the late Alda de Sousa, Conceição de Sousa and João De Melo.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Funeral Mass on Saturday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in Lowell at 12:30 o’clock. E-condolences at
