Dorothea “Dottie” Danas

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister;

Dorothea “Dottie” (Alexiou) Danas, 82 of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Monday December 28, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of Peter J. Danas, her husband for 61 years, who survives her.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, August 18, 1938, the daughter of the late John C. and the late Paraskeve (Douvlos) Alexiou, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1955. Dottie went on to graduate from Lowell State Teacher’s College.

In addition to being a proud home maker for her children, she also assisted her husband for over 50 years in the family business, the well-known Danas Fruit and Confectionary Store in Lowell.

Dottie was a member of the Hellenic Orthodox of the Holy Trinity and the Greek Orthodox Philoptochos Society.

Among her many interests, she enjoyed cooking, ceramics and being a seamstress for her family. However, her greatest joy was when she was with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Dottie is survived by four children James P. Danas and his wife Elaine of Dracut, Patricia Danas Vaporis and her husband Deacon John Vaporis of Lowell, John P. Danas and his wife Joyce of Lowell and Christine Apollos and her husband John of Concord; thirteen grandchildren Peter Danas, Constantine Danas, Christopher Danas, Alexander Danas, Dorothea Danas Vaporis, Kara Danas, Nomikos Danas Vaporis, Johanna Danas, Petra Kosmia Danas Vaporis, Athos Apollos, Romanos James Danas Vaporis, Dimitrios Apollos and Aristaios Apollos; her sister Elaine Daoulas and her husband Arthur of Alexandria, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Elizabeth Assimakopoulos.

Due to gathering restrictions, all Funeral Services were held privately for the family. A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date when family and friends can gather.
