Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother



Shirley A. (Crowell )Meehan, 91, wife of the late John F. Meehan Sr. who died in 2001, died Friday September 30 at D’Youville Health and Wellness Center.

Born in Lowell on March 16, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Royal and Doris (Gaudett) Crowell.  She attended Lowell schools, graduating from Lowell High School in 1949 and was a member of Saint Rita’s Church.

In earlier years, Mrs. Meehan worked for Sears and Roebuck in Lowell.  For many years following she worked as a Clerk for the Middlesex County Registry of Deeds retiring in 1992. Her favorite job was in the Newborn Nursery at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Lowell.

Shirley enjoyed reading, history, puzzles, travels with her late husband, dear friends and her brother Don and Flo to see family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by seven Daughters, Mary J. Lammi and her husband Kenneth of Hingham, Diane M. Ray and her husband Edward of Prattville, AL., Patricia A. Hunt and her husband Richard of Bellingham, Barbara A. Meehan of Tyngsboro, Ann M. Bertos and her husband George of Lowell, Catherine R. Meehan and her husband Mark McGoniagle of Midlothian, VA., Shauna Meehan of Lowell; 3 Sons, Michael R. Meehan and his partner Elizabeth Poloian of Tewksbury, Timothy J. Meehan and his wife Deborah (Shanley) of Andover, Thomas E. Meehan and his wife Kathryn (Kilmartin) of Dracut; a Daughter in law, Carole (Shugrue) Meehan of Dracut; 28 Grandchildren; 31 Great Grandchildren; a Brother, Donald A. Crowell and his wife Florence of Hudson, NH and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was the Mother of the late John F. Meehan Jr. who died in 2019 and Sister of the late Royal Crowell, Edward Crowell, Ardelle Caterino and Marilyn Bedard. Thank you to Terry, Michelle, Mary and Appleton Lane Staff of D'Youville along with Merrimack Valley Hospice.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. LOWELL on Thursday October 6, 2022, from 4 to 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Friday morning at ST. RITA’S CHURCH in Lowell at 10  o’clock.  Burial to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.  E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
