John F. “Doc” Flynn, Jr.

 

 
Decorated Veteran of WWII and Korean War;
 
 John F. “Doc” Flynn, Jr., 89, a longtime resident of the Acre section of the City, died Monday morning at the Wingate at Belvidere Nursing Center in Lowell.
He was the husband of the late Irene A. (Lord) Flynn who died May 12, 2004.
 Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, February 1, 1925, the son of the late John and the late Julia G. (Newton) Flynn, Sr., he attended St. Patrick Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School.
 A proud veteran of World War II and the Korean War, John served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Reeves in the North Atlantic on escort duty and after the ship was renamed the APD-52 was sent to the Japan invasion area where it undertook anti submarine, anti aircraft, underwater demolition duties and the repatriation of former P.O.W. held by the Japanese.
 Doc worked as a laborer for the city of Lowell for many years and was a member of the Association of State County and Municipal Employees.
 He was also a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s Association.
 John is survived by a granddaughter Sheri Boland of Lowell; two brothers James R. Flynn and his wife Valerie, William R. Flynn; three sisters Madeline Venne, Margaret Delorme and Patricia Farrell; a former daughter-in-law Stella McAuliffe; and members of the Foster and Lord families; and many nieces and nephews.
 He was father of the late Linda Boland and the late John F. Flynn, III, was the brother of the late Richard Flynn, the late Thomas Flynn and the late Gertrude Ragland, brother-in-law of the late Ruth Flynn and Sheila Flynn (who died December 14, 2014),
