Gertrude T. (Coffey) Flanagan
Beloved mother and grandmother;
Chelmsford - Gertrude T. (Coffey) Flanagan, 93, a member of a well known Greater Lowell family, died peacefully Wednesday evening at her home in Chelmsford surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Edward D. Flanagan, who died July 3, 1989. Born in Billerica, Massachusetts, November 20, 1921, the daughter of the late Edward C. and the late Augustine C. (Brock) Coffey, she received her education in the Billerica school system. Early in her career, before having children, Gert attended hairdressing school and became a professional hairdresser. Later, along with her late husband, she raised her children and supported the family painting business. Gert and her late husband were active members of several fraternal and charitable organizations in Chelmsford, including the Chelmsford Elks, B.P.O.E. 2310 and the Chelmsford Lions Club. Passionate about horses, she was also a former member of the Professional Horseman’s Association and the Merrimack Valley Riding and Driving Club. In her later years, Gert was all about family and her true love was the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gert is survived by a daughter Joan Ganotis and her husband Chris of North Hampton, NH; three sons John E. “Jack” Flanagan and his wife Marion of Chelmsford, James D. Flanagan and his wife Cherlyn of Milford and Joseph J. Flanagan and his wife Jo Anne of Chelmsford, with whom she made her home; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Monday morning at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CHURCH in NORTH CHELMSFORD at 11 o’clock.
