We have very fond memories of my father's Uncle Al and Mary. He was indeed fun, generous and a great guy. My dad got another special person in heaven to play cards with. Love and prayers to you all!

Alphonse “Al” MilinazzoDedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Alphonse “Al” Milinazzo, 87, a well-known resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, died Friday, May 1st at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane (Bakey) Milinazzo with whom he would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on June 7th of this year. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, June 7, 1927, a son of the late Luigi and the late Maria (Ferrera) Milinazzo, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1945. A veteran of World War II, Al enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 years old and proudly served as a Seaman, First Class aboard the Gearing class destroyer USS William M. Wood (DD-715) prior to his Honorable Discharge in 1948. He was an active and lifelong communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell and dedicated countless hours to charitable work throughout his life to various groups in and around the Greater Lowell community. Al was a kind and compassionate man. Before retiring from Prelco Corporation in Lowell in 1997, Al had a long and distinguished career in sales with various local automobile companies. As a successful career sales representative, he was respected and admired by his countless customers and colleagues. Among his many activities and interests, Al was a member of the B.P.O.E. #87 Lowell Lodge of Elks, as well as the Centralville Social Club, the Italian American Club and the Lowell Rotary Club where he was recipient of the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was also active in the Immaculate Conception Bowling League. Al loved the beach at North Hampton, dancing, cribbage league and traveling with his wife and family. In addition to his wife Mary, Al is survived by six children and their spouses Jane Connell and her husband Steven of Westford, James Milinazzo and his wife Anabel of Lowell, Patricia Witts and her husband Mickey of Dracut, Beth Moffett and her husband Brian of Lowell, Alan Milinazzo and his wife Kerry Nelson of Boston and Moira Hubbard and her husband Brian of Sudbury; a very dear and special niece Patricia Burke Hayward of North Andover; eighteen grandchildren Jillian (Connell) Conway, Alex Connell, Julie (Milinazzo) Durkin, Elizabeth (Witts) Descheneaux, Jonathan Witts, Philip Witts, Michael Witts, Meghan (Moffett) Ferreira, Michael Moffett, Lauren Moffett, Kathryn Moffett, Emily (Milinazzo) Peck, Molly (Milinazzo) Donovan, Quinn (Milinazzo) Kolmar, Sam Milinazzo, Nathaniel Hubbard, Andrew A.J. Hubbard and Devin Hubbard; six great-grandchildren in Massachusetts Tyler Durkin, Jack Durkin, Jackson Ferreira, Gavin Ferreira, Sydney Ferreira and Finnegan Donovan; one great grandchild in Maine Abigail Peck and her grandmother, Anne Lewis Barton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his sisters Marion Amatisto and Ann Burke and by his brother Peter Milinazzo. Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday.
