James P. “Jim” McDermott
James P. “Jim” McDermott, 55, of Lowell, died Friday, October 16th at his home. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, June 24, 1960, a son of the late John A. and the late Eileen B. (Bennett) McDermott, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of the Greater Lowell Vocational Technical High School with the Class of 1978. He then went on to graduate from Boston’s New England School of Art (now part of Suffolk University and Design) in 1982. After college Jim headed to Los Angeles and held a position of staff illustrator in the animation and comic industry; over the span of his career as an artist and illustrator, Jim's animation was often featured in an array of well known comics. Among his many activities, he was a member of the Seacoast Art Association. He also was active in the local community of artist and illustrators. Jim is survived by a sister Marybeth McDermott of Lowell; two brothers Jack McDermott of Farmington, NH and David McDermott of Bedford, TX; three nephews Colin, Nathan and Ryan McDermott and their spouses; many grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins; and two dear friends Mary Griffin of Nashua, NH and Shawn McManus of Florence, MA. Jim was predeceased by his lifelong friend and mentor Bhob Stewart who died in 2013. No farewell words were spoken, there was no time to say goodbye.
