Effie G. Vassilakos
Beloved mother, grandmother and sister;
Effie G. (Koukias) Vassilakos, 86, of Lowell, died peacefully Tuesday November 24, 2015, at the Atrium in Chelmsford after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife for over 50 years of the late Gregory H. Vassilakos who died June 1, 2006. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, April 29, 1929, the daughter of the late Stefanos and the late Gladys (Hulslander) Koukias, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Effie was a longtime member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. Prior to her retirement, Effie was the Manager of laundry services at Lowell General Hospital for many years. Effie enjoyed baking, gardening, spending time walking outdoors in her free time but was most happy when she was with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters Mary Ann Olivera and her husband Anthony of Twentynine Palms, CA and Valerie Arsenault of Lowell; two sons Harry S. Vassilakos and his wife Kathleen of Lowell and Stephen G. Vassilakos of Paris, France; a granddaughter Alexandra G. Vassilakos of Lowell; a grandson Gregory L. Arsenault of Lowell; two sisters Helen Koumpouras of Lowell and Carol Wilkins of Dunstable; a brother John Koukias of Lowell; a sister-in-law Terry Koukias of Bradford; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Irene and John Lelos of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews. Effie was the sister of the late Mary Vasilopoulos and the late Evanthea DeMoulas, the late Alexander Koukias and the late Charles Koukias. Private Funeral Services were held for the family.
