Portia C. Laganas

beloved sister, aunt and grand aunt;

Portia C. Laganas, 74, a longtime resident of Tewksbury and a member of a well known Greater Lowell family, died peacefully at her home in North Chelmsford Monday morning.
 
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, October 6, 1941, the beloved daughter of the late Charles G. and the later Rothanthy (Ostoposides) Laganas, she attended the Hellenic American Academy and Notre Dame de Lourdes School.
She went on to graduate from Tewksbury High School in the Class of 1959 and received a Degree in Business from the Chandler Business School in Boston.

Prior to her retirement, she was an Administrative Assistant for the Prosecutors/District Attorney’s Office in Lowell. In addition, she served as a primary caregiver for her father and her aunt for many years.

Portia was very proud of her Greek heritage and family was very important to her. She was a compassionate and caring person for those in need, especially the elderly.

An animal lover, Portia loved the dogs she cared for.

An active member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell, she served as a Past Board member of the Church and was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope for her church.

Portia is survived by two sisters Ginger Maragianis and her husband Harry of Chelmsford and Marianthy Fortin and her husband Roger from Lincroft, NJ; two nephews Dino Maragianis of Tewksbury and Conny Laganas and his wife Vicki of Wellington, FL; two nieces Lula Champagne of Saundertown, RI and Dottie Wachtel and her husband Brian of Bronson, FL; five grand nephews Brandon, Nikolas, Quintan, Tyler and Trevor and grandniece Christina.

She was also the sister of the late George Laganas and the late Sandra Economidou.

Friends may call the HELLENIC ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE HOLY TRINITY, Lewis St. in LOWELL from 8:45 to 9:45  A.M. Friday morning. Her Funeral Service will follow at the Church at 10 o’clock.
