Paul J. Cahill, Jr.Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Paul J. Cahill, Jr., 69, of Madison, NH, died Tuesday, March 1st at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD with his wife by his side. He was the beloved husband of Susan J. (Daugherty) Cahill who survives him and with whom he would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on March 21st of this year. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, September 4, 1946, a son of the late Paul J. and the late Nancy (O’Neil) Cahill, he was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island. Eager to further his education, he then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Maryland. Paul proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years as a Historian during which time he attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and was awarded several meritorious Service Medals. Some of his proudest achievements were: The Eighth Air Force Historian of the Year Award for 1988, The Allan S. Major Award for the best History program in SAC in 1988 and The USAF Program Excellence Award for 1989 for managing the best History program (Unit Level) in the USAF-2nd Award. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Paul was employed as an Administrative Assistant with Liberty Mutual Insurance in Portsmouth. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Catherine of Sienna in Portsmouth where he served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Among his many activities, Paul enjoyed genealogy, traveling, golf, vegetable gardening and loved the outdoors including fishing, swimming and boating. He was also an avid reader and fan of the Patriots and Red Sox. He was a member of the U.S. naval Golf Academy as well as a former member of the school board at St. Patrick School in Portsmouth. Above all else though, he cherished the quality time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife Sue, Paul is survived by two daughters Erin E. Kennedy and her husband James J. of Brookline, NH and Cristin M. Cahill and her fiancé Todd Strugnell of Hudson, NH; four grandchildren J.J. Kennedy, Danny Kennedy, Courtney Dennis and Garrett Frohman; a sister Cynthia Riccio and her husband Al of Chelmsford, MA; three brothers Sean Cahill of Yarmouthport, MA, Timothy Cahill of Madison, NH and Liam Cahill and his wife Cathy of Centerville, MA; and many nieces and nephews. He was also grandfather of the late Kathryn Ann Kennedy, brother of the late Patrick Cahill and brother-in-law of the late Rosemary Cahill. Friends may call at the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in Lowell, MA from 3 to 7 P.M. Tuesday. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday morning at ST.
