Irene P. Kazes

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister;

Irene P. (Polychronopoulos) Kazes, 97, of Lowell died Thursday morning at Northwood Health Care Center in Lowell surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Constantine J. Kazes.

Born in Gargaliani, Messinia, Greece, September 25, 1918, the daughter of the late John and the late Harriet (Canacopoulos) Polychronopoulos, Irene received her education in the Salem, Massachusetts school system.
Irene retired from Forge Mills in Lowell where she worked as a Doppler for over 35 years.

A woman of strong faith, Irene loved cooking with and for her family. She especially enjoyed any time spent with her grandchildren and with all her family.

Beloved by all, she will be missed by many and the memories of her will be treasured by those who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her daughter Sophia A. Mitsios of Lowell; a daughter-in-law June Kazes of Rockport; two grandsons James C, Mitsios and his wife Samantha of Lowell and Alexander J. Kazes of San Diego, CA; two granddaughters Elizabeth Daly and her husband Zachary of Dover, NH and Dr. Elaina Kazes of Boston; three great grandchildren John Mitsios, Zoe Daly and IslaDaly; a sister Ann Polychronopoulos of Peabody; two nephews Angelo Sakelarios of Chelmsford and John D. Chronis of Lynn.

She was also the mother of the late Dr. John A. Kazes; mother-in-law of the late Spiro J. Mitsios; and sister of the late Dennis Chronis and the late Sophie Sakelarios.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service Monday morning at the HELLENIC ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE HOLY TRINITY at 10 o’clock. E-condolences/directions at odonnellfuneralhome.com.
