Mary Jo Carter
Loving companion, mother and grandmother
Mary Jo (Plumley) Carter, 72, of Lowell, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 30th at Lowell General Hospital. She was the beloved companion of 18 years to James G. Estabrook also of Lowell.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, November 24, 1943, the daughter of the late Harold and the late Mary L. (Sullivan) Plumley, she attended Lowell schools and was graduate of St. Patrick Girl's High School in the Class of 1961.
Mary Jo was employed in the Accounting Department at Albert H. Notini & Sons for over 40 years until their closing.
Among her many activities, Mary Jo enjoyed shopping, vacationing, cruises and spending her summers at Kennebunkport, Maine. She was also active with exercising, yoga and being a lover of nature, walking along the river. A big fan of the arts, she frequently attended plays and the movies. Above all else though, being all about family, she cherished the quality time she spent with Jim, her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her companion Jim, Mary Jo is survived by two daughters Kathleen M. Fernandez and her husband Douglas A. of Hickory, NC and Kimberly A. O’Keefe and her husband Charles E. of Lowell, MA; a son Jack Carter of Nashua, NH; seven grandchildren Jason, Samantha, Randy, John, Alicia, Haley and Billy; a brother Jack Plumley and his wife Elizabeth of Hartford, ME; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also sister of the late Butch Plumley.
You all know Mary Jo was a lady, and a lady knows when to leave. She is with God, no pain, and we as her friends will grieve and celebrate her life and live with our personal and shared memories of our beloved friend…and feel blessed for knowing Mary Jo.
