Kleonike J. “Claire” Bentas

Kleonike J. “Claire” Bentas, 88, of Lowell, died Sunday, October 16th at the Palm Center in Chelmsford with her loving family by her side. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, November 5, 1927, a daughter of the late John E. and the late Vaitsa (Laios) Bentas, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1945. Claire Bentas began her career at Lowell Technological Institute in 1956 serving as the Executive Assistant to then President, Dr. Everett Olsen. She continued working in the Chancellor area supporting the Executive Vice Chancellor until her retirement from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1999. Claire was a lifelong member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell where she was a member of the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos Society. Among her many interests, she loved to travel, especially to Greece and Russia and was an avid reader. Claire is survived by a sister Thalia J. Bentas of Lowell; a brother Efthemios J. “Tim” Bentas and his wife Lily H. of Boston, MA; and several cousins in Greece. She was also sister of the late Dr. Christos J. Bentas who died in 2003.
Friends will be received on Thursday morning at the HELLENIC ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE HOLY TRINITY from 10 to 11 o’clock. Her Funeral Service will immediately follow in the church at 11 o’clock.
