Martin W. “Marty” Hanley

Loving husband, father, brother and uncle
 
 Martin W. “Marty” Hanley, 59, of Lowell, died Sunday, February 26th at his home following a brief illness with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Icaza) Hanley who survives him and with whom he celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary on March 15th, 2016.
 Born in Norwood, Massachusetts, January 27, 1958, a son of the late Donald H. and the late Virginia A. (Williams) Hanley, he was a graduate of Oakmont High School in Ashburnham, MA.
 A proud veteran of the U.S Army that spanned 22 years, he saw action in the Panama Campaign and served during the Gulf War/War on Terrorism as an Ammunition Specialist, Infantryman and Explosive Ordinance Disposal Specialist. Over the course of his military career, he was awarded the Army Lapel Button, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, (7th award), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, Parachutist Badge and Master Explosive Ordinance Disposal Badge.
 Following his illustrious military career, eager to further his education, Marty went on to graduate from U/Mass Lowell with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Information Systems.
 Most recently, Marty was employed as a Senior Network Administrator with Sullivan Bille PC in Tewksbury for over 15 years. He was also Senior Vice Commander of the American Legion Post 247 in Tyngsborough.
 Among his many activities, he enjoyed building with Legos, fidgeting with the latest electronic gadgets, gardening, yardwork, camping and decorating for the holidays; especially Halloween and Christmas. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
 In addition to his wife Mary, Marty is survived by two daughters Jennifer M. Hanley of Newington, CT and Stephanie J. Hanley of Arlington, VA; a sister Virginia C. Suarez and her husband Luis of Tamarac, FL; a brother Donald D. Hanley of Pompano Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
 He was also brother of the late John H. Clement and the late Richard A. Hanley.
 In keeping in accordance with his wishes, there were no calling hours and all Funeral Services were held privately. Burial took place in Lowell Cemetery. E-condolences at
