Loving husband, father, brother, and friend;

 

Walter C. Gallagher, Jr., 61, of Lowell, MA but formally of Groton, MA, died Saturday morning August 12, 2017, after a courageous battle with lung cancer at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

 

He was the beloved husband of Karen F. (Monette) Gallagher with whom he recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on May 22nd of this year.

 

Born in Anchorage, Alaska, December 28, 1955, a son of the late Walter C. and the late Miriam (O’Heir) Gallagher, Sr., Walter attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School with Class of 1973.

 

He went on to graduate from Boston University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History.

Walter was a Senior Account Executive with Retrofit Technologies in Milford, Massachusetts where he had worked for 30 years. Previously, he was with Wang Labs, Inc.

 

A longtime member and current Director on the Board at Longmeadow Golf Club, Walter enjoyed playing golf with family and friends. However, the time he truly cherished was when he was with his family, especially his daughters.  Together, they shared a great love of all things Harry Potter, and spending time at the family house in Maine on Kezar Lake.

 

Besides his wife, Karen, he is survived by his two daughters Melissa A. Gallagher of Boston and Bridget E. Gallagher of Weehawken, NJ; two sisters Linda M. Kilbride and her husband Michael of Pelham, NH and Deborah I. Gallagher and her husband Peter Traversy of Cambridge; a brother Michael E. Gallagher of Sudbury, MA; his aunts Katherine (O’Heir) VanGreenby of Lowell and Judith O’Heir of Rye, NH; his father-in-law Lester Wm. Monette, Jr. of Dracut; his in-laws Anne Marie (Monette) and her husband Richard Condike of Methuen, Michael Monette of Nashua, NH, Daniel Monette and his wife Kimberly of Dracut, William Monette and his wife Lisa of Dracut, Timothy Monette and his wife Susan of Pelham, NH; and many nieces, nephews, great niece and nephews, and cousins.

 

Walter was predeceased by his brother David Gallagher, his uncle David O’Heir and his mother –in-law Barbara (Gill) Monette.

 

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Wednesday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH at 11 o’clock.
