Retired Supervisor Treasurer’s Office U/Mass Lowell; 

Virginia F. (Gorman) Mellen, 81, of the Centralville section Lowell, died Monday evening at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford with her loving family by her side.

She was the loving wife for some 65 years of John P. “Jack” Mellen, who survives her.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, May 5, 1936, the daughter of the late James L. and the late Julia T. (Ward) Gorman, she attended St. Michael’s Grammar school and was a graduate of Lowell High School.

Virginia worked at the former University of Lowell (nka U/Mass Lowell) for over 31 years retiring in 2002 as a Supervisor in the Treasurer’s Office.

Among her many interests, she enjoyed reading, knitting and shopping but her true joy was the time she spent with her family especially her granddaughters.

Besides her husband, Virginia is survived by her daughter Kathleen A. Lima and her husband Bradley of Sandwich, MA; two granddaughters Ashley K. Lima of Sandwich and Courtney M. Arki and her husband Andrew of Falmouth.

The Mellen family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Sunny Acres Nursing Home for the personal care, compassion and concern they extended to Virginia during her stay.    

Relatives and friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. Saturday morning followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at ST.
