Adam Aiken
Adam Aiken, 51, of Andover Massachusetts, passed away on July 28th, 2023, surrounded by his family. All those that knew Adam are deeply saddened and feeling a profound loss by his premature death.
He was the loving husband for over 23 years of Nancy (Tayebi) Aiken and the loving father of Jack and George Aiken, who survive him.
Adam was born to Patti (Lewis) Aiken and the late George Aiken, Jr. on March 9th, 1972 and raised in Oklahoma City. Adam grew up with his only sibling, his brother Andrew Aiken.
Early in life, Adam demonstrated quick wit and a sharp mind by routinely “backing his parents into a corner” with instant retorts and questions – foreshadowing his legal career. At nearly 10 years old he gained his brother, Andrew Aiken. Both instantly adored one another. Despite the decade age difference, Adam cherished his brother and played an influential role in his life. Even as a teenager, he delighted in taking care of Andrew in the summers while their parents worked.
Adam was an excellent student and made school look easy, but his real passions were computers, playing sports and just a little mischief. He was notorious for concocting plans, like spending the night with his friends on the Canadian River and shooting bottle rockets at one another. His dad eventually discovered it and immediately administered the lightest punishment imaginable.
His stealth athleticism and quiet determination made him a force in sports at a young age, but he gave them up for golf. His father introduced him to the game, where he would go on to spend many hours at a golf course no matter the season. Over the years, golf became an activity that brought peace, joy and deepened connections with others. Adam’s mother’s passion for and gifts in music were also passed to Adam. Music was a source of inspiration and creativity. Adam was a self-taught guitarist who was passionate about the act of creating music rather than the accolades of performance. He played in a band in college and performed a memorable set at his wedding. His love for music grew in unexpected ways when he discovered he could build his own guitar from disparate parts purchased for next to nothing online.
After high school Adam attended the University of Oklahoma, where he met more lifelong friends, and furthered existing relationships. He finished his college career at the University of Central Oklahoma, where he discovered his love for law and decided to apply to law school. He attended the University of New Hampshire Law School, then known as Franklin Pierce. He thrived at the intensive law school, where he met even more lifelong friends, including his wife, Nancy Tayebi.
Nancy and Adam were friends at first, and then best friends by the end of law school. It wasn’t until after graduating and moving away that they realized they were meant to be together. They married in 2000, and both practiced law in the New York City area, Raleigh and Andover.
Adam was a brilliant attorney who was loved by his clients for his quick solutions-oriented approach and easy manner. During each chapter of his career, he excelled, and created deep connections with those he worked with.
In 2005 Adam became a father when his son, Jack was born. Three years later he gained another son, George. When both Jack and George were born, a new and bright light turned on from within that stirred anyone remotely close to him. His newfound focus on his family only grew over the years. The love he displayed to Nancy, Jack and George was unwavering and undergirding. He was selflessly devoted to their happiness, joy and peace. His deep devotion and commitment to his family is a legacy that lives in his sons and is admired by all who knew him.
A man of many talents, Adam was a quick study and could learn and apply almost anything, but what was so special was his humility to keep this gift to himself. He loved his hobbies and pursuits for what they were not what they presented. He loved the purity of the experience. Adam’s spirit of calmness and quiet confidence was immediately felt by anyone that encountered him. His love, which was so giving and so genuine, stirred an emotion that would make people run through fire to and for him. His family is where his heart is and undoubtedly what he loves and cherishes most in life. Adam is a truly beloved person and his earthly death will not keep all that have known his love from continuing to feel his love.
Adam is survived by his wife, Nancy Aiken, his sons, Jack and George Aiken, his mother, Patti (Lewis) Aiken, his brother Andrew Aiken and wife Casey, his nephews and niece, Luke, Callahan, and Sidney Aiken, his father and mother in law Amad and Alexa Tayebi, and his brother in law Ron Tayebi and his wife Dalia, as well as extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Friday August 4, 2023 at ST. GEORGE ANTIOCHIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH 44 Bowers St. in LOWELL from 4 to 7 P.M. His Funeral Service will be held in the Church on Saturday morning at 10:00 o'clock followed by his burial at the West Parish Cemetery in Andover, MA. In remembrance of Adam Aiken, we ask that donations be directed toward St George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Lowell Massachusetts, or the Esperanza Academy in Lawrence Massachusetts, a local tuition free all-girls school built on justice and centered on joy.
