Elizabeth “Ally” Tavoularis, R.N.
Beloved sister, aunt, and cousin;

Elizabeth “Ally” Tavoularis, R.N., 97, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 3, 2024, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford, MA.

Born in Lowell, MA, April 25, 1926, the daughter of the late John and the late Katherine (Shilakos) Tavoularis, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the class of 1943. She later earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Columbia University in New York City, and her Master’s Degree in Education at Boston University.

Elizabeth proudly served her country during WWII as a member of the United States Army Nurse Cadet Corps.

Prior to her retirement, Ally was an Instructor at UMASS Lowell School of Nursing. Previously, she was the Director of Nurses at Harvard University Health Services, Director of Nurses, now known as Brigham & Women’s Hospital, and Maternity Supervisor at Lowell General Hospital.

She was a member of the Philoptochos Society at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell. Ally was an avid golfer, and a former member of the Mt. Pleasant Golf Club.

She is survived by nieces Kathy Lalos and her husband James of Portsmouth, NH, Ann Donnelly Tavoularis of Littleton, MA, and Aphrodite Zezas and her husband Spero of Buffalo, WY; she is also survived by several grand-nieces and grand-nephews Nicholas Tavoularis, Christina Tavoularis Breen and her husband Robert, Christopher Lalos, Victor Zezas, and Katerin Zezas.

She was the sister of the late Nicholas J. Tavoularis, Georgia Moser, Patricia Archambault, Louis J. Tavoularis, and Aristotle J. Tavoularis. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law Anna Tavoularis and her nephew John Tavoularis.

Dr. Judith Cox Marley
1954-2024

Dr. Judith Cox Marley, of Andover, MA and Drakes Island, ME, known to friends as Judy, passed away on April 5, 2024 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. She was 69 years old. Judy will be remembered as a woman of remarkable passion.  Her intelligence and charisma touched the lives of those who knew her.  Judy effortlessly formed lasting connections with everyone she encountered.

Judy leaves her husband of 44 years, Steve. She is also survived by her two children, Elizabeth Marley Condosta of Portsmouth, NH and Andrew Cox Marley of Hopkinton, MA. In addition, she is survived by son-in-law John Condosta and daughter-in-law Amy Giroux Marley as well as grandsons William and Andrew Condosta and Christopher, James and John Marley. Judy was predeceased by her parents William “Wiffy” Cox and Mary (Moynihan) Cox. She also leaves her sister Linda Evans, brother-in-law Bob Evans of Salem, NH and brother, Bill Cox and sister-in-law Penny Cox of Drakes Island, ME, as well as four nieces and nephews, Carolyn and Jay Daw and Jack and Catherine Cox.

Raised in Lawrence, Judy attended St. Mary High School before pursuing her education at Boston College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Education. Following her graduation, she pursued a Master’s Degree at UMass Lowell.

Judy's teaching career took her to several Lawrence Public Schools, including the Adult Learning Center, where she served as the Center’s Director. She later held positions such as Vice President of Academic Affairs at the New England College of Finance and Assistant Dean at Boston University's Metropolitan College. Judy earned her Doctorate in Education from UMass Lowell in 2002, and in 2008, she became the Dean of Graduate and Professional Programs at Emmanuel College in Boston. In 2012, Judy began volunteering at the Lawrence Family Development Charter School. She was later appointed Assistant Superintendent serving there until her retirement in 2020.

Judy's passion for teaching extended to a faculty role at Boston University (BU), where she continued to inspire students even after leaving to serve as Dean at Emmanuel. In 2020, she was honored at BU with the Roger Deveau Part-Time Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Beyond her professional achievements, Judy's greatest joy came from her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother. Her battle with glioblastoma was marked by her incredible strength and resilience. Despite the health challenges she faced, Judy refused to succumb without a fight serving as a beacon of determination and hope to all who knew her.

Theresa M. (Carr) McCarthy

A devoted mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother

It is with much sadness that the family of Teresa M. (Carr) McCarthy announces her passing on March 31, 2024, at D’Youville Senior Care.

Teresa was a lifelong resident of Lowell, Massachusetts. She and her husband built a home in the Christian Hill section of Centralville where they raised their family, and she spent the majority of her life.

She was born to her parents, the late Mary (Bue) Carr and the late Stanley (Karczewski) Carr. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul J. McCarthy (Lowell Police Captain). She was also predeceased by her son, Dennis M. McCarthy (Lowell Postal Carrier), her son-in-law, Normand R. D’Amour (Attorney in Lowell) and her brother, Albert J. Carr (Lowell Police Lieutenant).

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Karen McCarthy D’Amour, Karen’s partner Alan Brown, Teresa’s grandson Brian M. McCarthy and his wife Jessica, two great grandchildren, Heather and Shawn and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Murphy McCarthy. She is also survived by her loving niece, Kathleen Duffy, who visited her weekly in the last few years of her life and brought her much joy.

Teresa attended the Immaculate Conception School, graduated from Lowell High School and attended Lowell Commercial College where she graduated at the top of her class. She worked in a variety of office positions until marrying her husband Paul in October 1947 on the “Sweetest Day of the Year.”

The consummate home maker, Teresa loved to be home cooking and gardening and taking care of her family. She was a loyal friend and would reminisce about her experiences with her two dear friends who had predeceased her, Marie and Phyllis. She was a quiet woman who enjoyed her own company. She was intelligent, strong-willed, had an interest in nutrition and health and liked to study medications and their health effects and interactions. She possessed great common sense and often wished she had made the effort to write a newspaper column on the subject. Later in life Teresa enjoyed Saturdays with her daughter, going out to lunch and shopping.

There will be a Mass in her honor at St. Michael’s Church in Lowell following the wake at 11am.

Michelle Marie (Gagnon) Costello

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister;

Michelle Marie (Gagnon) Costello, 73, of Quechee, Vermont, but formerly of Lowell and Andover, Massachusetts, passed away on April 2, 2024, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center surrounded by her adoring family.

She was the beloved wife for over 44 years of Andrew G. Costello of Quechee, Vermont (and formerly Lowell and Andover, MA), who survives her.

Born in Lowell, MA, June 14, 1950, the daughter of the late Antonio and the late Loretta (Gagnon) Gagnon, she attended the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, MA, and later received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Michelle was an Elementary School teacher at the Franco-American School in Lowell, MA, and later a full-time loving mother of her 6 children.

Amongst her many interests, Michelle enjoyed tennis, skiing, hiking, cooking, gardening, and traveling. She loved dogs and above all else, she enjoyed making countless memories with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was known by friends and family to be kind, selfless, charming, and beautiful inside and out.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter: Victoria Cooper and her husband Dan of Wakefield, MA; four sons Anthony Costello and his wife Ashley of Byfield, MA, Joseph Costello of Bolton, VT, William Costello of Nashua, NH, and Stephen Costello of Essex Junction, VT; five grandchildren Tommy, Charlie, Rose, Emilia, and Madelyn; two sisters Olivia Breton and her husband Richard of Dover, NH, Denise Jusczak and her husband Jimmy of Pelham, NH; she is also survived by a brother Dennis Gagnon and his wife Theresa of Barnstead, NH and a sister-in-law Danielle Gagnon of Lowell, MA.; many nieces and nephews

She was the mother of the late Andrew G. Costello, Jr. and the sister of the late Tony Gagnon and Richard Gagnon.

The family would like to recognize the extraordinary care and selflessness of her son,  Stephen Costello, during her most trying of times. Putting his family before himself is something he learned from his mother.
