George M. Tsandikos

Retired Administrator, Lowell Public Schools;


George M. Tsandikos, 91, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, a well-known Lowell educator, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 25th, 2021 at Lahey
Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on July 12th, 1930, the son of the late Michael and the late Helen (Karakantas) Tsandikos  George attended the Lowell schools
and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1949.  While growing up in the Acre, he was one of the first employees at the original Demoulas Market on Dummer Street, something he was always proud of.

George attended the New England Conservatory of Music and proudly served his country as a member of the US Army.  Upon his return to the United States, he  attended Boston University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Pathology.

Prior to his retirement, George was a long-time administrator with the Special Education department for the Lowell Public school system.

In addition to his career in education, George had a passion for music and was an accomplished opera singer.  He was honored to perform with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, with the Opera at LaScala in Italy and most notably at the Herod Atticus Theatre at the foot of the Acropolis in Greece. He was also a longtime cantor at Temple Emanuel of the Merrimack Valley.

A lifelong and passionate Red Sox fan, he made it a point to try and watch every inning of every game in a season.

He is survived by three nieces Angela Papandreou and her husband John of Lowell,  Elaine Damianakis of Lowell, Frances Gordon and her husband John
of Warren, Rhode Island; his nephew, Harry T. Anastopoulos, of Weston, MA; his four great nieces and nephews; Maria Papandreou and her husband Joseph
Musel of Lowell,  Michael Damianakis, of Utah, Marina Anastopoulos of
Boston and Ted Anastopoulos of Boston.

George is predeceased by his sisters Bessie Haidutis and Kitsa Anastopoulos, and his nephew John Haidutis.

Relatives and friends are invited to George's visitation on Wednesday
December 1, 2021, at the HELLENIC ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE HOLY TRINITY in LOWELL from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. followed by his Funeral Service in the
Church at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at the Westlawn Cemetery.
