Robert E. Sleeper, Sr.

Devoted father, grandfather;

Westford – Robert E. Sleeper, Sr., 99 of Westford, passed away on Monday January 3, 2022, at D’Youville Senior Care with his son and daughter by his side.

He was the beloved husband of Marian (Flynn) Sleeper who passed away in 2013.

Born in Dracut, June 29, 1922, the son of the late Frank and the late Louise (Salviss) Sleeper, he was raised in Dracut and Lowell, attending Lowell schools. He moved to Westford in 1973.

Bob was a WWII Navy Veteran having proudly served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations aboard the battleship USS Missouri as a Radar man 2nd Class.  He was present aboard the USS Missouri during the signing of the documents of unconditional surrender in Tokyo Bay.

A Licensed Master Pipefitter, Bob was employed though the years by Raytheon in Lowell, General Electric Riverworks in Lynn and, more recently, at the City of Lowell Lands and Buildings for 17 years, retiring in 1986.

In his younger years Bob enjoyed camping and vacationing on the Cape and in the Lakes Region with family and friends.  When newly retired he was in constant motion planting massive vegetable gardens, chopping a lifetime supply of firewood, repairing things around his home and the homes of friends.  In later years, as he reluctantly slowed down, Bob enjoyed watching football and golf while doing his never-ending supply of jigsaw puzzles.

Survived by his two children, son Robert Sleeper, Jr., and wife Lea Duquette of Haverhill, his daughter Carol Sleeper-Keller and her husband Douglas Keller of Lowell.  He leaves grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

He was predeceased by sisters Ethel Cullipher, Marion Whitney, Lucy Bell, Lillian Drury, and Rena Thurlow and by brother Frank Sleeper.

The family would like to thank the staff of D’Youville Senior Care for their kind and compassionate care of Bob.

Private Funeral Services were held for the family. E-condolences at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
