Helen B. Koules

Loving mother and grandmother;

Helen B.(Bilionis) Koules, 92, of North Chelmsford, formerly of Fitchburg, MA, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife, for 64 years, of Steven A. Koules, who died in 2019.

Born on June 19, 1929 in Fitchburg, MA, Helen was the daughter of the late Louis and Bessie (Mouroutsos) Bilionis. A 1947 graduate of Fitchburg High School, she graduated the following year from Salter Secretarial School. Helen worked at the Fitchburg Public Library for many years until her retirement in 1986.

Helen was an active member of the Holy Trinity Churches in Fitchburg and Lowell. She was also a longtime member of  the Philoptochos Society and the Chelmsford Garden Club.

Known for her sweet, warm personality, Helen loved entertaining family and friends; her house was always open. A superb cook, Helen also baked masterfully. Anyone lucky enough to have had them would say, her baklava and paximathia were legendary.

Helen is survived by four daughters: Anna Koules of New York City, Beth Koules of Boston, MA, Despina Anton and her husband Arthur of Carlisle, MA and Stephanie Koules of Brooklyn Heights, NY. Two grandchildren, Olivia Anton and Steven Anton, will forever be her pride and joy. Helen was the sister of the late Charles Bilionis and the late Dr. Angelo Bilionis.

Due to Covid, a private funeral service was held. A memorial service will take place at a later date. E-condolences at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com. Those wishing to make contributions in Helen’s memory may make them to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis Street, Lowell, MA 01854. • Barbara Lambropoulos  - My Sympathy
    Dear Koules Family, I remember your parents so well from when they lived in Fitchburg. They were the sweetest couple. My grand mother lived on West St and I would often see your mother walk down Westminster Hill Road. She would stop and chat with my grandmother. We would go to your dad’s pharmacy as well. I just lost my mother on the 13th of January. She was 102. May their memory be eternal. Barbara Nousis Lambropoulos jsRyl

    Helen was a lovely woman. So friendly and sociable. She and Steve were a wonderful couple. After Helen moved from Fitchburg, it was unfortunate that we visited with her at wakes and funerals usually. But those were memorable times. Please accept our sincere sympathies at this difficult time. May God send His comfort to her daughters' families.
