Doris (Couilliard) (Desmarais) Wessen

Age 106, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt;

Doris (Couilliard) (Desmarais) Wessen, 106, of the Highlands section of Lowell, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Saturday July 2, 2022, at the Belvidere Healthcare Center in Lowell.

She was the wife of the late George H. Wessen and the late Edward Desmarais (who died on D Day in WWII at the Battle of Normandy).

Born in Lowell, MA, August 30, 1915, the daughter of the late Chelsea and the late Madeline (Mahoney) Couilliard, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.

Prior to her retirement she worked as a Salesclerk at the former Bon Marche Department Store in Lowell and at the Pollard’s Store across the street.

Doris is survived by her son Edward J. “Jack” Desmarais of Saratoga Springs, New York; three grandchildren: Mark Desmarais and his wife Cecile of South Glastonbury, CT, Brian H. Desmarais of Davie, Florida, and David J. Desmarais and his wife Colleen of Mankato, Minnesota; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother-in-law of the late and his wife Jacqueline A. (Patenaude) Desmarais and sister of the late Raymond Couilliard and late James Couilliard.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Tuesday July 12, 2022, at ST. MARGARET OF SCOTLAND CHURCH at 12:00 Noon followed by her burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.   When I worked at Belvidere Health Care I had the privilege of caring for Doris. A classy interesting lady and the favorite amongst the staff. She loved her family and enjoyed their phone calls, cards and flowers when covid curtailed visiting. Rest now sweet Doris.
