Mary Ann Richards

Beloved aunt, great aunt, stepmother, niece and cousin;

Mary Ann Richards, 68, a lifelong Lowell resident and wife of the late Heiner "Hank" Wais, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022.

Born in Lowell on February 8,1954, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late J. Arthur Richards and the late Dorothy A. (Sheehy) Richards, R.N.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar school, Lowell High School, Class of 1973, and Middlesex Community College.  She also pursued many other studies in the medical field.

She has been employed at local hospitals in the area as a phlebotomist, lab technician, EKG technician and was a licensed emergency medical technician for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  She was most recently employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at Tewksbury Hospital and per-diem at Lowell General Hospital - Saint’s Campus in Lowell.  She truly enjoyed working with patients and had a natural gift for certain procedures that she credits from her mother who had been an extraordinary, registered nurse for many years.

Mary Ann was the life of the party and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at the home she shared with Hank.  These were her happiest times, and her home was a place where all were welcome. Together, they traveled to visit Hank’s family in Germany along with family trips to Ireland.

She is survived by her nephew Mark J. Richards and his son Cole, her stepdaughter Brenda Edwards, her husband Curtis, and their children.  Mary Ann is also survived by three aunts, Patricia (Wojcik) Sheehy, Fleurette (Ayotte) Sheehy and Molly (Gleason) Sheehy, along with many cousins from the Richards, Sheehy, and Townsend families.  She had a special relationship with her cousin, Katie (Sheehy) Madden who was more like a sister to her.  She leaves behind her devoted friends, Brenda Crowley, and Eva Girolamo.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her sisters, Eileen M. Richards, and Katherine L. (Kay) Richards and many aunts, uncles, and a cousin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Funeral Mass to be celebrated at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in LOWELL on Monday October 17, 2022, at 11 o'clock followed by burial of her ashes at St. Mary's Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
