Marion Ann MacLeod

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend;




Marion Ann MacLeod, a longtime resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, MA, died peacefully Thursday November 24, 2022 after a period of declining health.

Born in Manhattan, NY on March 13, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John MacLeod and the late Catherine (Harrington) MacLeod. Marion was a graduate of Keith Hall in the Class of 1947 and attended Lowell Commercial College.

At the age of 20, following her work as a proofreader for the Lowell Sun newspaper, Marion relocated to Washington, DC to work for the United States Navy in the Bureau of Ordnance. Upon her return to Lowell in 1957, she worked as a financial analyst by the Space Systems Division of Avco Corporation, which designed and built the heat shield to protect NASA’s Apollo crews inside the Command Module. Avco later became Textron Systems, from which she retired in 1987.

Marion is survived by her daughter, Deborah A. Finnegan, grandchildren Neil P. Finnegan and his wife Heloisa Teixeira Costa, Thomas J. Finnegan and his wife Jordan Davis, and Ellen C. Finnegan; great-grandson Edward J. Finnegan; brother Paul F. MacLeod and his wife Molly MacLeod; sisters-in-law, Rae MacLeod and Joan MacLeod; and many nieces and nephews.

Marion was the wife of the late Manuel Nunez and the late Robert N. Barnard; sister of the late Elizabeth “Betty” C. Nelligan, John “Jack” P. MacLeod, Thomas M. MacLeod, and Richard J. MacLeod; and mother-in-law of the late Edward F. Finnegan.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL on Friday morning December 2, 2022 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH  in Lowell at 11 o’clock. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in North Tewksbury.
