William P. O’Connell

Beloved brother, uncle, and grand-uncle;


William P. "Bill" O’Connell, 68, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness.

Bill was born in Lawrence, MA, on September 30, 1954 and was the son of the late John and Louise (Campling) O’Connell. He attended St. Laurence O’Toole School and graduated in the Class of 1973 from Central Catholic High School. He went on to attend Lowell Technological Institute, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting in 1977.

Bill worked for State Street Bank for over 30 years in the Accounting, IT, and Quality Assurance Services. Over the years, he received many promotions, ending his career as a Vice President in 2015, when he retired.

Outside of work, Bill had many interests, including travel, history, growing plants, and landscaping.  He traveled extensively with cruising being his favorite vacation and Hawaii his favorite destination. He also loved to cook gourmet meals and enjoyed fine dining, so he was always game to get together for a good meal. Bill loved to spend time with family and friends doing simple things, as long as they were together.

Bill is survived by three siblings: Richard J. O’Connell and his wife Mary Rose of Billerica, MA, Mary Lou Bergeron of Methuen, MA, Elizabeth A. Deabay and her husband Gary of Haverhill, MA; four nephews: Ryan O’Connell and his wife Kaileen, Christopher O’Connell, Kyle Deabay, and Sean Deabay; and by two grand-nephews and one grand-niece. Bill was predeceased by his nephew, Michael O’Connell.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m.. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass which will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH,  144 E. MERRIMACK ST. in LOWELL at 10 a.m. o'clock. Burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA. The family requests that flowers not be sent, preferring that donations be made in Bill’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
