Robert P. Phaneuf Jr.

Beloved Husband and Father

Robert P. Phaneuf Jr., 66, a Lowell resident, died unexpectedly Sunday morning April 23, 2023 at his home.  He was the husband of Kathleen Pender-Phaneuf who survives him.

Born in Lowell on February 16, 1957, he was a son of the late Robert P. Phaneuf Sr. and Patricia (O’Loughlin) Phaneuf.

Robert received his elementary education in the Chelmsford Schools and his High Schools education at Bishop Guertin in Nashua NH.  Robert graduated from Northeastern University receiving a degree in Criminal Justice.

Mr. Phaneuf worked as a Campus Police Officer at University of Massachusetts Lowell Campus and as a Security guard at Healthsouth in Lowell.

Robert was a member of the Lions Club International of Lowell and served as Past President.  He enjoyed playing golf, had a passion for reading and was an avid sports fan of Boston sports teams. Robert was well known in the area for his Sports Blog he had online called Beantownchatter.com.

He was labeled as a coffee connoisseur by many, as that was his drink of choice and met his friends afternoons at Dunkin Donuts.  Summers were spent with his family at Kennebunkport, ME and Hampton Beach.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by a daughter, Marykathleen E. Phaneuf, a son, Matthew R. Phaneuf, both of Lowell; two sisters, Ann Mackay and her husband David of Nantucket and Julie Kiely and her husband Jay of Swampscott; 7 Nieces and nephews, Shaughn Pender of Lowell, Kevin and Bethany Pender of Nashua,NH, Luke and Claire Mackay of Nantucket, John and Olivia Kiely of Swampscott; an aunt, Rita Broderick of Chelmsford; two brothers in law, Michael E. and his wife Donna Pender of Lowell and Brian R. Pender of Nashua,NH; a sister in law, Maura G. Pender of Danvers; goods friends Thomas Healy of Lowell, David Desmond of Tyngsboro, David Ramsey of Belmont and his loving pets, Copper and Todd.

He was the son in law of the late Edmund H and Carole (Shaughnessy) Pender and the nephew and godson of the late Eileen O’Loughlin.

Friends may call at the  O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 PAWTUCKET STREET, LOWELL on Friday April 28, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Saturday morning at ST. MARGARET OF SCOTLAND CHURCH in LOWELL at 10 o’clock.
