Jeannette C. Sullivan, R.N.

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister;

Jeannette C. (McDonald) Sullivan, R.N., 95, of Freedom, NH and Lowell, formerly of Weymouth passed away peacefully in Lowell on Friday June 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the loving wife of the late John J. Sullivan who died October 14, 1997.

Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, June 26, 1927, the daughter of the late Juliette (Thiboutot) McDonald, she attended Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School Class of 1945.  Jeannette went on to graduate from Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse.

A veteran of the Korean War, Jeannette proudly served her country as a Captain with the Nurse’s Corp in the U.S. Army.

During a career spanning 40 years, Jeannette worked as a Registered Nurse at the VA Hospital in Jamaica Plain and spent 35 years at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, where she rose to Director of Unit Management.

She was the former long-time president of the Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing Alumni Association.

Among her many interests Jeannette enjoyed traveling, sewing, knitting, reading, woodworking and playing golf. However, her greatest joy was when she was with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Jeannette is survived by her son Michael Sullivan and his wife Maria of West Greenwich, RI; two daughters Jeanne-Marie “Jan” Demetriou and her husband Steven of Lowell, and Annette Sullivan of Lowell; six grandchildren Jennifer Capozzi and her husband Mark of Lowell, Samantha Demetriou and her husband Michael Raumer of Falls Church, VA, Gregory Demetriou and his fiancé Courtney Reed of Melrose, MA, Timothy Demetriou and his wife Christa of Lowell, Angela Tavantzis and her husband Chris of East Elmhurst, NY and Andrew Sullivan of West Greenwich, RI; and a great grandson Benjamin Raumer; her brother Richard McDonald and his wife Kathy of Hanover, MA; and her caregiver Erin Walsh of Lowell.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Patrick Sullivan, her siblings Rita Costa, Louise Hooker, Lorraine Menchi, Beatrice Davey and John McDonald.

A special thank you to the VA Boston Home Based Primary Care of Lowell, who enabled her to remain at home with her family in her later years.  Also, thank you to Mary and Kathy, her nurses from the Tufts Medicine Care of Home Hospice for their compassionate care.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 4 to 7 P.M. on Thursday June 29, 2023. Her Funeral Mass will take place on Friday afternoon at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH AT 12:30 P.M.
