Robert E. Plunkett Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother;
Robert E. Plunkett, 77, of Salem, NH and Kennebunkport, ME, passed away on Sunday March 16, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was the loving and devoted husband of 57 years, to Catherine (Talty) Plunkett, who survives him and was forever by his side. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of the late John T. Jr. and the late Dorothea (Loranger) Plunkett, he attended the Immaculate Conception Grammar school and was a graduate of Keith Academy in the Class of 1966. Bob went on to attend the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and decided to follow in the footsteps of his father-in-law and pursue a career in floor covering. Prior to his retirement, Bob was the successful owner and operator of Robert Plunkett and Company, a full-service floor covering company, for over 50 years where he developed several strong and enduring friendships with business partners and his customers. Never forgetting his roots, he also volunteered and enjoyed his time as a member of the Board of Directors for Lowell Day Nursery.
Bob was an avid reader with a love for non-fiction, particularly U.S history. For many years Bob enjoyed playing golf with his friends and father-in-law, Jerry Talty at Vesper Country Club and in the Northern Twi-League played throughout eastern Massachusetts. Later he traded his golf clubs for a power boat which he kept at Wentworth By the Sea Marina in New Castle, NH. He enjoyed being on the water with family and friends and especially the extended trips he and his wife Cathy took to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, Newport, Long Island, and a cruise by the Statue of Liberty.
Bob always placed a huge emphasis on family and fondly remembered his days at Cobbetts Pond with his parents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncle and his many cousins where his days were filled with water skiing and time on the pond. Throughout the years, he continued to love spending time and keeping touch with his family and with Cathy’s family, the Taltys.
However, his greatest joy was when he was in Kennebunkport, ME with his family. He loved dining in town and his walks with Cathy to Walker’s Point, the many summer vacations with his son Steve, daughter Jen and their families and especially his time with his three granddaughters, watching them swim as boats were passing by on the Kennebunk River. His time in Kennebunkport also led to many great friendships he made with his neighbors.
Besides his wife, Bob is survived by a son Stephen J. Plunkett and his wife Susan B. of Bristol, RI; a daughter Jennifer A. Alban and her husband Robert T. Alban of Bedford, NH; three granddaughters Katherine H. Plunkett, Lily M. Alban and Annie D. Alban; two sisters Dorothea LaBranch and Patricia Guziejka both of Pelham, NH; three brothers John T. “Jack” Plunkett, III and his wife Eileen of Lowell, Richard A. Plunkett and his wife Susan of Windham, NH and James V. Plunkett and his wife Heather of Andover, MA; a sister-in-law Joan Plunkett of Tewksbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Michael D. Plunkett.
The Plunkett Family would like to provide their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the staff of the Inn at Fairview in Hudson, NH and at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH.
