Carole Ann (Woods) Brown

Loving mother and grandmother

Carole Ann (Woods) Brown, 79, of Chelmsford, died Tuesday morning, June 23rd at Lowell General Hospital-Main Campus surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Brown, Jr. who died October 30, 1988.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, January 19, 1936, a daughter of the late Joseph H. and the late Mary E. (Driscoll) Woods, Carole attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1954. She went on to graduate from Lowell Commercial College in 1957.

Before retiring, Carole was employed as a Switchboard Operator at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA for 17 years.

Carole, who lived for her family, especially her grandsons, would light up whenever her sister and cousins would visit with her, and often showed visitors her flower garden. She enjoyed vacations with her extended family at Hampton and Seabrook beaches, picnics in the White Mountains, driving to explore the back roads of New England, visiting museums and listening to music, especially jazz.

An avid reader, she loved reading restaurant reviews, food magazines, cook books and often  called the Chelmsford Public Library for assistance.

Fearless and well loved, Carole was always very curious and once called and spoke to Martha Stewart for advice on her daughter Karen’s wedding plans.

Carole is survived by two daughters, Pamela Brown and her spouse Denise Whitlock of Newburyport, MA; and Karen O’Keefe and her husband Brian of Chelmsford, MA; two grandsons Brendan and Matthew O’Keefe both of Chelmsford, MA; a sister Rosemary Quinn and her husband Jack of Dunstable, MA; and nieces: Melissa Shesterkin and husband John, Bridget Former and husband Alistair, Eileen Parmet and husband Matthew and  nephew John Quinn and wife, Lori and great nieces and great nephews and  many loving cousins.

She was predeceased by her aunts and dearest friends Dottie (Driscoll) Tulley, Rosemary (Driscoll) Fiori, Helen (Driscoll) Lysaght and Uncle Bill Driscoll.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Roy Maletz and his staff for providing many years of dedicated medical care and most recently, Professional Profiles and the Nursing staff at Lowell General Hospital for their compassionate medical care.
