John A. Mileon John A. Mileon, 98, of Lowell, died Wednesday, July 29th at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Athena (Lelos) Mileon who died May 31, 2013.
Born in Andros, Greece, March 25, 1917, a son of the late George and the late Katina (Andrellos) Mileon, he received his education in New York City schools. A veteran of World War II, John proudly served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, 3rd Army and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was involved in the Northern France Campaign (Invasion of Normandy), Central Europe Campaign, Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge) and the Rhineland Campaign. He was also recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, 4 Bronze Service Stars and the Purple Heart. Before retiring, John was employed as a Store Manager at the former A & P Supermarkets throughout New England for over 30 years. Among his many activities, John enjoyed cooking, fishing and general carpentry. He was also an avid New England sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and Patriots. However, above all else, he loved the quality time he spent with his two beautiful granddaughters. John is survived by two daughters Melanie K. Shorrock and her husband Steven of Lowell and Nancy A. O’Connell and her husband Michael of Framingham, MA; a son George J. Mileon and his wife Maryellen of Duxbury, MA; two granddaughters Meghan O’Connell of San Francisco, CA and Caitlin O’Connell of New York City, NY; a grandson Christopher Jeffcote and his wife Kaitlin of Duxbury, MA; his goddaughter Angela Scesny and her husband Michael of Troy, NY; a sister Virginia Feiden of Troy, NY; a brother Edward Mileon of Troy, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Alexandra Matheos and the late Mary Dogias. Friends may call at the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Monday.
