Helen S. Vulgaropulos
Beloved mother and grandmother;
Helen “Neno” (Sakellarios) Vulgaropulos, 96, of Andover, died unexpectedly at her home Friday morning. She was the wife of the late Peter “Vou” Vulgaropulos who died in 1988 and with whom she was the former Co-Owner and Operator of Olympos Bakery in Lowell. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, August 30, 1919, the daughter of the late Dionysios and the late Panagiota (Kintzios) Sakellarios, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1938. She was also a member of the Girl Officers. Helen lived a full and active life and enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to cook and had a lifetime tradition of hosting family and friends at her home for Sunday night dinners.
She also enjoyed pottery, ceramics and her friends in the Flicks movie club, a group of women who went to the movies and travelled to New York City on a regular basis. Additionally, Helen was a longtime member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity. She is survived by two daughters Mary Muldoon and her husband James of Lowell and Denise Papanastasiou and her husband Peter of Dracut; her son Dr. Spyros P. Vulgaropulos and his wife Jan of Cary, NC; eight grandchildren Elena Flores and her husband Gilbert of Brooklyn, NY, Mary Bellerose and her husband Dan of Newburyport, James Muldoon and his wife Jennifer of Rockville Center, NY, Stephen Papanastasiou, Danielle Papanastasiou and Alethia Papanastasiou all of Lowell, Zoe Vulgaropulos of Washington, DC and Maya Vulgaropulos of Los Angeles, CA; seven great grandchildren Sarah, Danny, Jack, Isabel, Andrew, James and Olivia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also the sister of the late Angelos Sakellarios and the late Florence Lanides.
Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Wednesday morning.
