John W. Mahoney

Lifelong resident of Lowell (Belvidere, Highlands)
 

LOWELL, MA -- John W. Mahoney, 89, of Lowell, MA, passed away peacefully on Feb 28, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife Mary with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, his children Elizabeth and Jack, his granddaughter Emily and his grandson Sean.

Born in Lowell on Feb 15, 1928, son of the late Dr. George and Helen (Collins) Mahoney, John attended Lowell public schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1945. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Seoul, Korea during the Korean War.

Upon his return home, John attended the New England College of Pharmacy and graduated with the Class of 1952. As a registered pharmacist, he owned and operated the Townline Pharmacy in Tewksbury, MA for several years, and was later employed by Pfizer as a pharmaceutical sales representative.

In his spare time, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, playing tennis, maintaining his homes, spending summers in Hampton, NH with his family, reading, and as an avid local sports fan supporting the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins.

He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Rita (McCarthy) Mahoney of Lowell, his daughter Elizabeth Mahoney , his son John “Jack” Mahoney, six grandchildren Emily McCormick, Sean McCormick, Michael Mahoney, Matthew Mahoney, Mitchell Mahoney and Murray Mahoney, as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sisters Virginia Dion and Marilyn Zielinski, and his brothers George and Donald.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. from 4 to 7 P.M. on Friday, March 3, 2017. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday morning, March 4, 2017, at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in Lowell at 10 A.M., (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) followed by his committal services at St. Mary’s Cemetery.     To Mary Rita, Liz Ann, Jack and families. Thinking of you all. I always loved to see Uncle John at family get togethers.
