Robert McLellan M.D.

Beloved husband, father, brother, in-law, and uncle;

Dr. Robert McLellan, 69, passed away peacefully on Oct. 10 at his home in Fernandina Beach, Fl.

Affectionately known as “Bob,” he was born in Miami, Fl., on July 29, 1954. Born into a Navy family to the late David J. McLellan and Gertrude K. McLellan (née Hayes), and siblings David and Donna, Bob lived in several states during his early life, before attending Boston College for his undergraduate degree. He then earned his medical degree from University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md., in 1980.

Bob led a successful career as a gynecologic oncologist, helping many in his 20 years at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., as well as at Arizona Oncology in Tucson, Ariz., and Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, N.H. Bob was also a patriot who, in his 40s, followed in the footsteps of his parents in joining the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer in the Navy reserves. He was called to active duty and served his country admirably aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), where he deployed to the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf during Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, respectively. He attained the rank of commander.

Bob will be dearly missed. He was known for his robust sense of humor, and his interests in football, beekeeping, spending time with his loyal dog, Admiral Halsey, and cooking his homemade “Bob’s Dirty Chicken.” Bob was also known for hosting a radio program as “Dr. Bob” for Radio A1A in the Florida Keys.

He is survived by his wife, Krista McLellan, of Ipswich, Mass.; sons, David John McLellan, of Salem, Mass., and James Robert McLellan, of State College, Penn.; sister Donna Sherry and husband, Bill; sister-in-law Katie McLellan of Aspen, Col.; brother-in-law Karl Teel and his wife, Michelle, of Baltimore, Md.; brother-in-law Erik Teel and his partner, Angela Peavy, of Jacksonville, Fl.; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. He was predeceased by his brother, David McLellan.
