Louise A. (Moynihan) Kilmartin

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt;

Louise A. (Moynihan) Kilmartin, 91, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at The Saab Residence in Lowell, MA.

She was the beloved wife of the late George P. Kilmartin, Ret. LPD.

Born in Lowell, MA on July 5, 1932, the daughter of the late John J. and the late Frances J. (McCrosson) Moynihan, she attended Lowell Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the class of 1949. Louise was a lifelong communicant of St. Margaret of Scotland Church. She was also an active member of the St. Margaret Blessed Virgin Sodality; a former member of the Middlesex Women’s Club; and The League of Catholic Women.

Prior to her retirement, Louise loved her work as a Secretary at the Fred Abisi Adult Education Center in the Lowell School Departments for over 20 years. She was a proud resident of the Highlands for most of her life. Her greatest joy was spending time with family. She was a devoted mother, Nana, and great-grandmother. She would delight in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren- never missing their milestone events.

Louise had a vibrant mind, quick wit, and a generous, compassionate heart. She was passionate about helping the less fortunate people in her humble, quiet way. Louise provided a loving home for her family. Her door was always open to welcome her family and friends with a warm embrace, a cup of tea, a sweet treat, an attentive ear, and loving advice.

Louise had many cherished friends throughout her life and shared a lifelong bond with her best friend, Lillian Vinal. She loved the beach, the lake, and long car rides- always including a stop for pie or ice cream. She enjoyed attending dances at The Elks Club with her beloved husband George, reading, and traveling with her sister Marguerite. She had a long journey with many unexpected turns, which she navigated with courage, grace, and dignity throughout her life. Louise will be dearly missed by her family and cherished friends and will remain forever in our hearts.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn A. Meehan, retired reading specialist and her husband Thomas E. of Dracut, MA; four sons: John F. Kilmartin of Waltham, MA; Robert J. Kilmartin, retired Colonel U.S.M.C.R. and his wife Cathleen of Barnstable, MA; William J. Kilmartin, retired postal employee of Tyngsboro, MA; and Michael D. Kilmartin of the Lowell Police Department and his wife Patricia A. of Chelmsford, MA; eight grandchildren: Joseph P. Kilmartin, Kailey E. Swetz and her husband Thomas, Daniel R. Kilmartin, Kathryn M. Matte and her husband Theodore, Kevin P. Meehan and his wife Laura, Erin M. Meehan, Michael G. Kilmartin, and Matthew J. Kilmartin; six great-grandchildren: Teddy and Jane Matte; Ryker Kilmartin; Owen and Finn Meehan; and Jude Swetz; a sister Marguerite M. Patrick of South Yarmouth, MA; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late George P. Kilmartin, Jr. and the mother-in-law of the late Tracy (Nyder) Kilmartin. She was also the sister of the late Daniel Moynihan, John Moynihan, Robert Moynihan, and James Moynihan.
