Charles E. “Chuck” Carney
Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather

Charles E. "Chuck" Carney, age 82, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away in the presence of family on Friday July 12, 2024, at Vantage Health and Rehab in Chelmsford after a recent stroke. A proud lifelong Lowellian from the Swede Village neighborhood, Chuck was born on April 10, 1942, the eldest child of Charles E. and Catherine M. (Penney) Carney. He attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and graduated from Keith Academy in 1960. He went on to attend Fitchburg State College.

Chuck leaves behind his wife of 62 years, M. Sheila (McFadden) Carney, of Lowell. Besides his wife, he leaves behind three children, sons: Michael S. Carney and partner Jennifer Deasy of Sunapee, NH and Sean Carney and wife Laurie (Milinazzo) of Dracut; and a daughter Erin (Carney) Parisi and husband Carl of Chelmsford; a dedicated son-in-law David A. Bernardini of Lowell; one brother Thomas F. Carney of NH; two sisters-in-law, Joanne and her husband Richard Tellier of Pelham, NH, and Kellie and Scott McClory of Myrtle Beach, SC; and a brother-in-law Paul and Kim McFadden of Lowell.  He was the loving and supportive "Gramp" to six wonderful grandchildren whom he adored; Kerrin, Shaila, Patrick, and Robert Carney, Nate and Seth Parisi. He also leaves behind a very dear cousin in Kathy Walsh of NH and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his eldest daughter Colleen (Carney) Bernardini who passed away in 2023.

Chuck always put others first and cherished spending time with his family. Many people often share stories of how he had helped them in their careers, or life in general. His witty sense of humor was well-known. Chuck was also a master in the kitchen. He would disappear to his "kitchen" in the basement to prepare homemade recipes passed down through the generations to share with this family. He was a former Pop Warner football coach, Scout Master of Cub Scout pack 36, Cosgrove Street Block Party planner, member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Lowell Planning Board, as well as lead organizer of the Emerald Isle Golf Classic which supported the Wider Horizons project of Ireland. He was an avid New England sports fan and proud of his dual U.S. and Irish citizenships. Chuck traveled widely and loved to share stories of the countries he visited, including the generous people he met and the ethnic food he enjoyed.

Chuck achieved much in his professional career through hard work and perseverance, along with a little bit of luck.  His most recent professional position was as the Director of Parking Operations with the City of Lowell. Prior to that, he held managerial positions at companies including Raytheon, Digital Corporation, Applicon, and then eventually working his way up to become President and CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Davox Corporation in Westford, MA.

Relatives and friends may attend his Memorial Visitation on Thursday July 18, 2024, at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 5 to 7 P.M. His burial services will be held privately for the family. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
