Walter A. Bacigalupo, Jr.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother

Walter A. Bacigalupo, Jr. passed away unexpectedly but peacefully Friday December 20th with his loving wife Norma (Nicolai) McGowan by his side in Pelham, NH at the age of 81.

Born in Boston’s North End, the son of the late Walter Bacigalupo, Sr. and the late Ernestine (Nassano) Bacigalupo, Walter graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in 1961 and continued his education at Boston College, earning his degree in 1965 and later completing a Master’s in 1970. During his time at Northeastern, he met his beloved Mary, whom he married in 1967. They shared a life together until her passing in 2001. A few years later, Walter found love again and married Norma in 2011.

Having lived for many years in Lowell before moving to Pelham in retirement. Walter worked for 30 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for a variety of agencies.  He was an advocate for services for families and children mostly though the Department of Mental Health as an Assistant Area Director of Services. Retiring in 2003, he spent his retirement more active than ever traveling with Norma, writing poetry, being active in many groups, and working for the Arc of Greater Haverhill-Newburyport, Inc.

Walter was many things to many people: a husband to two incredible women, a father to his three children, a stepfather to Norma’s children, a proud grandfather, a dedicated son and brother, an uncle, an advocate, a poet, a mentor, a friend to many and always the most fun person at a party.  He leaves a legacy of positivity, advocacy, and love to all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife Norma  (Nicolai) McGowan of Pelham, NH, his children Patricia Bacigalupo and her husband Andy Curtis of Winter Park, FLA, Mike Bacigalupo of North Chelmsford, MA, his step son Stephen McGowan and his wife Dawnmarie Brown-McGowan, his stepson Brian McGowan and his wife Tracey Correia-McGowan and his granddaughter Abbey McGowan of Pelham, NH, his brother Edward Bacigalupo and his wife Martha Bonneville Bacigalupo of Boston, MA, his sister Barbara Bacigalupo of Burlington MA, and his many nieces and nephews and their children.

He is predeceased by his wife Mary (Dockett) Bacigalupo, and his son Walter Bacigalupo.
