Charles Eben Gillis Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, formerly from Billerica Mass.
Charles E. “Chuck” Gillis, was born on December 13, 1950, in Boston, MA. He passed away suddenly and peacefully on December 23, 2024, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. Chuck was a resident of Dracut, MA at the time of his passing. He is survived by his loving wife of over 22 years, Patricia C. (Halychyn) Gillis, formerly of Yonkers, NY. Chuck was the son of the late George F. and Doris (Collins) Gillis of Somerville, MA. He was the beloved stepson of the late Robert G. Wilson of Nova Scotia, Canada and Billerica, MA. Chuck is also survived by his twin sister Cheryl Hunt, her husband Rusty, and family of Nottingham, NH. Chuck is also survived by his loving son Joshua Gillis and his wife Christine of Dracut, MA; his three grandsons, Jacob in Colorado, Christopher in Germany, and Shawn in Nebraska; three stepchildren, Jeff White and his wife Sara of Winter Garden, FL, Coreen Lowney of Dracut, MA, Brian White and his fiancée Jennifer Marcolongo of Dracut, MA; seven step granddaughters, and one great step granddaughter.
Chuck was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served in the National Guard from 1969 through 1975. After leaving the armed forces, Chuck worked as a contractor and earned his builder's license. He spent 30 years framing and building homes all over New England and parts of Florida. Chuck eventually became a facilities manager at Life Care Center in Billerica, MA where he worked for over 17 years.
Chuck loved his beautiful green lawn as well as caring for his vegetables and flower gardens.
One of his many passions was as a beekeeper who tended to 12 hives with his best friend Chris Conley.
He loved tapping maple trees for sap and making his delicious maple syrup. Chuck enjoyed identifying the many species of birds in his backyard and changing the seeds in his bird feeders.
He was a talented guitar player, singer and former song writer. He and his bandmates even won a local Battle Of The Bands in 1967.
Chuck was a handyman who could fix anything and loved fishing in his spare time.
He was an avid reader of newspapers and would read them from cover to cover each day.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife to many tropical island destinations throughout their time together.
Chuck had a great smile, a warm heart, and a laugh which could light up any room.
He will be loved and missed by all who truly knew him.
