Catherine L. (Ford) MacLaughlan, R.N.

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and cousin;

Catherine L. (Ford) MacLaughlan, R.N., 81 years old, of Lowell and Scituate, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Friday August 18, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late John J. MacLaughlan who died in 2017.

Born in Boston, MA, August 6, 1942, the daughter of the late Thomas and the late Louise (Johnson) Ford, she was a graduate of St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Brookline and then attended and graduated from the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing in 1963.

Prior to her retirement, Catherine worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, MA, and the former St. John’s Hospital in Lowell, MA (nka Lowell General Saints Campus).

Among her many interests, Catherine was also a member of the  Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Cedar Point Association of Scituate, Ma.  However, her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and summering in Scituate, MA, since the 1940’s.

She is survived by five children: John J. MacLaughlan, III, of West Roxbury, MA, Ellen L. Slattery and her husband David of Lowell, MA, Thomas F. MacLaughlan and his wife Kristin of Brookline, MA, Daniel J. MacLaughlan and his wife Kristina of Burlington, MA, Beth A. Giliberti and her husband Frank of Lowell, MA; four grandsons Cameron John, Jack Frederick, Jason Daniel, and Thomas Patrick MacLaughlan; four granddaughters Catherine Louise, Emma Rose, Abigail Elizabeth Giliberti, and Caroline Louise MacLaughlan; two sisters Margaret Billy of San Diego, California, and Josephine Roman of Needham, MA; four brothers-in-law Kevin D. MacLaughlan and his wife Donna, James M. MacLaughlan, David W. MacLaughlan and T. Joseph Shanley; a sister-in-law Elizabeth Ann Shanley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the Hemotology and Oncology department at Tufts Medical Center for their compassionate care especially Dr. Wu, Dr Jeyapalan, and Madeline Couch NP.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Visitation on Thursday morning August 24, 2023 at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in Lowell, MA, from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:30 A.M.     We knew Cathy for over 20 years and always enjoyed talking to her at neighbor's homes, such as Roy and Brenda Arena's, and John and Mary Alice Brennan's, and during her walks around the Point. She was always smiling and in a good mood no matter what her physical condition. We will always remember her fondly.

    I was so sorry to learn of Cathy's passing.I have known her for about 70 years .In the summer herfamily would rent the cottage next to my home and eventually they bought a cottage just up the road so our friendship continued.
