Garrett M. “Sid” Sheehan,

Retired Police Captain, University Faculty

Dracut - Garrett M. “Sid” Sheehan 78, devoted husband of Julie S. (Soczawa) Sheehan, and a resident of Dracut for the past 43 years, died on Tuesday December 14, 2021, due to complications from COPD, after an extended 25-year victory over cancer.

Born in Lowell, March 5, 1943, son of the late John J. “Duke” Sheehan Sr. and Mary Agnes (Cotter) Sheehan, he graduated from St. Patrick Grammar School, and Lowell High School Class of 1962. Garrett earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry from Salem State College and received the first Master of Science Degree in Forensic Chemistry awarded by Northeastern University in 1977.

A veteran of the Vietnam War (1962 – 1966), he proudly served his country in the Air Force with the 18th Tactical Fighter Wing during the early stages of the war. Stationed in Okinawa Garrett fondly remembered coaching the Raiders to the All-Island Football Championship. Upon returning from his service, he coached the Belvidere Team in the Lowell Junior Football League from 1966 to 1968.

Garrett began his career as a Chemistry teacher at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody in the early 70’s.  He continued with his “Hobby of Teaching” for over 25 years as an Adjunct Faculty member with the Criminal Justice Departments of the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and Middlesex Community College, along with teaching Crime Scene Investigative Procedures to Recruit Officers of the Lowell Police Recruit Academy.  Garrett truly came alive while teaching – it was his passion – and any student who has had Professor Sheehan knows to always follow “Sheehan’s Rule” when arriving at a crime scene.

He joined the Lowell Police Department as a patrol officer in 1978 and rose to the rank of Captain in 1992. Garrett retired from the LPD in 2003.  He was the recipient of several letters of citation and commendation during his 25 years of service.  Prior to coming to Lowell, he worked with the Boston Police Department as a Criminalist in the Crime Laboratory Unit where he developed several innovative procedures for the analysis of physical evidence.

A graduate of the FBI National Academy, he has maintained membership in its Association for more than 36 years.  He also held membership in the American Legion, the International Association for Identification, the Massachusetts Police Association, the St. Patrick School Alumni Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the East End Club, and the “Busted Knuckle” Car Club of Dracut.

Garrett also held Emeritus membership in the Northeastern Association of Forensic Scientists.  He was a member of St. Patrick Parish Building Committee, Parish Council, Golf Tournament Committee, Irish Cultural Committee, Organ Restoration Committee and St. Patrick School and Educational Center, Financial Advisory Board.  He was a faithful and devoted parishioner of St. Patrick Parish of Lowell, throughout his life.

Along with teaching, his hobby’s included rebuilding and driving classic Chevrolet trucks, and supporting associations battling Cancer, Autism and other debilitating illnesses.  His favorite moments in this world were when he was just, “Papa”, and spent time with his four grandchildren that he adored.  They were his greatest gifts, as he would tell everyone who asked, often sharing photographs and stories with a twinkle in his eye.

Garrett is survived by his wife, Julie (Soczawa) Sheehan; his daughters Erin and her husband Keith Caples of Hudson, NH; Maeghan and her husband Matthew Swanson of Presque Isle, ME, as well as his grandchildren: Kaeleigh and Garrett Swanson, and Melanie and Abigail Caples; his Sister-in-law Frances (Frani) Sheehan, along with his nieces Joanne Suprenant, Judy McKenna, Colleen Judge, and Kerrilyn Pessin; nephews John (Jack) Sheehan III, and Kevin Sheehan, many great nieces and nephews, and his dear cousin, Andrea Reilly; and leaves behind many friends, two in particular that went above and beyond to provide support and love in his final days, Maureen McNiff and Raymond Leavitt.

He was also the brother of the late Thomas F. Sheehan, Sr., and the late John J. Sheehan, Jr., (Retired Superintendent of Police).

Dorothy L. Rondeau

Dorothy “Dottie” L. Rondeau, 77, of Swanzey, NH and previously of Lowell and Woburn, MA died on December 7th, 2021, after a long courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia and a sudden medical condition.

Born on January 22, 1944, in Lowell, MA to the late Joseph Anthony and the late Blanche Marie (Payer) Rondeau, Dottie attended Pawtucket School in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High in 1961.

After a year of clerical work at the Currier Citizen in Lowell she entered religious life under Sisters of Charity of Ottawa, A.K.A. the Grey Nuns of the Cross.  During that time, she received a BA in Education and taught grade school in Massachusetts and Louisiana.

After some time and consideration, she left religious life and worked in Cincinnati, OH and Jaffrey, NH before she landed her last job of 27 years at Houghton Mifflin in Burlington MA as an administrative assistant for the Customer Service Department.  After retirement, Dottie gravitated back to her love for teaching and served as a volunteer teaching English as a second language to immigrants from a variety of countries.

In her spare time Dottie loved to square and ballroom dance, walk, attend live entertainment, read, teach Sunday school and care for the friends and family she loved.  She also had affinity for travel and took many trips including to Europe, the Canadian Rockies, California, as well as many other places in Canada and the US.   One of her favorite places to be, was by the Oceanside and for years spent time each autumn with family in Ogunquit, ME.  No matter what she did, it was with love, purpose and meaning, and always with gratitude to and glorification of God.   Her dry wit, generosity, curiosity and zest for life are qualities that will long endure with all who love her.

Dottie is survived by her sisters Jan Rondeau of Franklin, NH and Mary Anne Quinn of Hudson, NH, her niece Jessica Quinn of Hudson, NH and her niece and husband Michelle and Charles Soter, Jr. of Swanzey, NH. She is predeceased by her brother, Raymond Rondeau.

Scot J. Schermerhorn

Beloved brother, uncle and friend;

Scot Joseph Schermerhorn, 53, of Grafton, Massachusetts passed away Monday Dec 13, 2021, after a yearlong illness.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, December 12, 1968, the son of the late Howard A. and the late Helen M. (Bennett) Schermerhorn, Scot grew up and lived for many years in Billerica, Massachusetts.

Scot graduated from Billerica Memorial High School in the Class of 1987, where he was a multi-sport athlete and made lifelong friends. A graduate of UMass-Lowell with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, he lived and worked in the Boston area for many years, most recently as sales manager in the electronic security services industry.

A member of a rather large family, Scot enjoyed attending sporting events and concerts with his friends and family and brought laughter wherever he went.

Scot is survived by four brothers, Mark Schermerhorn of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Glen Schermerhorn and his wife Anne Marie of Lowell, MA, Todd Schermerhorn and his wife Kate of Mendham, NJ, and Gary Schermerhorn and his wife Miriam Esteve of Key Biscayne, Fl.

He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews Stacey Kasch and her husband Jason, MaryBeth Gregory and her husband Matt, Bret Schermerhorn and his wife Sarah, Kyle Schermerhorn and his wife Morgan, Courtney, Nicholas and Tyler Schermerhorn, Ryan, Brady and Colin Schermerhorn, Louis Schermerhorn and his wife Chelsea Taylor, Thomas and Henry Schermerhorn.

Scot was pre-deceased by his sister-in-law Judith Schermerhorn.

Barbara Marie Glasheen

Beloved, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Seabrook Beach, NH  - Barbara Marie (Burke) Glasheen, 88, of Seabrook Beach, NH passed away on Friday December 10 at her residence in Salem NH.

She was the beloved wife and college sweetheart of Edward A. Glasheen .  They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2015 before her husband Edward passed away.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, April 10, 1933, the daughter of the late Thomas and the late Helen (Ryan) Burke, Barbara graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro MA and went on to graduate from Lowell State Teachers College (nka UMass Lowell) in 1954.

Prior to her retirement, Barbara was a grammar schoolteacher in the Lowell School System for many years.

In retirement, Barbara enjoyed traveling, knitting, reading, playing cards, time with her friends and time in Florida.  She also enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Tampa Rays, Patriots and Dancing with the Stars.

Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family.  She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, celebrating their accomplishments, and sharing stories while sitting on the porch at her beach house. She will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her five children Edward Glasheen Jr. and his wife Diana (Doyle) of Smithfield ME, Marigail Glasheen of Merrimack NH, Timothy Glasheen and his wife Jeanne (Tourville) of Pelham NH, Thomas Glasheen and his wife Susan (Finn) of Hudson NH and Richard Glasheen and his wife Carol (Leary) of Hudson NH.  She also leaves 9 grandchildren Kelly (Glasheen) Freitas, Drew Glasheen, Katie (Glasheen) Maloney, Thomas Glasheen Jr, Brett Glasheen, Molly Glasheen, Sarah Glasheen, Hannah Glasheen and Alicia Glasheen.  She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, Nathan Freitas, Johnathan Maloney and Evelyn Freitas; as well as many nieces and nephews.
