Stella G. Maloney

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend;



Stella G. (Stefancyk) Maloney, 98, of Ashland, MA, but formerly of Lowell, passed away peacefully at St. Patrick Manor in Framingham on Thursday July 21, 2022.

She was the loving wife of the late Robert E. Maloney who died in 2004.

Born in Northbridge, MA, June 13, 1924, the daughter of the late Walter and the late Anna (Kozial) Stefancyk, she was a graduate of Lowell High School.

Prior to her retirement, Stella worked for over 27 years at the Greater Lowell Technical High School in the custodial department. Previously, she worked as a hairdresser.

Being with her family was Stella’s greatest joy, especially spending time with them down at Bass River on Cape Cod.

Stella is survived her daughter Colleen Maloney Hesser of Ashland; her step-granddaughter Jennifer Mitchell and her husband Kevin of Lee, NH; three step-great-grandchildren Jaelynn Currie, Gavin Mitchell and Shayla Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Robert J. Maloney who died in 1991 and mother-in-law of the late Richard L. Hesser.

Muriel F. Haggerty
a beloved lifelong resident of Lowell;

 

Muriel F. (Shanahan) Haggerty, 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 17, 2022 at the Palm Center in Chelmsford.

She was the wife of the late Philip J. Haggerty and resided in Lowell her entire life until moving to the Bayberry Assisted Living community in Tewksbury in 2016.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on July 9, 1924, the daughter of the late Edward F. and the late Mary F. (Fitzgerald) Shanahan, she was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception parish of Lowell and a former communicant of St. Patrick’s parish until she married Philip in 1950.

A proud graduate of St. Patrick’s Girl’s High School in Lowell, the entire class of sixteen with whom she graduated from St. Patrick’s with were all lifelong friends and Muriel shared many fond and cherished memories of their fun times together. She also attended Lowell Commercial College.

While raising her children, Muriel worked part-time as a clerk for the Lowell School System. Later in life, she retired after many years working for Mass Opticians in Lowell.

She will be fondly remembered for her strength of character and zeal for life, long into her 90’s. She and Phil enjoyed many years ballroom dancing with friends.

Muriel loved to sing to her family, meet with old and new friends, follow all the NE sports teams (especially the Red Sox) and swam in the ocean into her early 90’s. Muriel enjoyed playing cribbage and read the Lowell Sun newspaper every day. But her very favorite activity was to talk proudly of her beloved granddaughter, Molly.

Surviving Muriel are her two daughters, Mary Jo Sudol and her husband Stephen A. Sudol of Dracut and and Susan F. Jones and her husband John L. Jones of East Aurora, NY; her beloved granddaughter Molly B. of East Aurora, NY; and her sister H. Ursula Shanahan of Lowell. Muriel also had many loving friends of all ages who were like family to her.

She was also the sister of the late Edward F. Shanahan.

Proud Lowell native.



Gerald L. “Jerry” White, 86, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, passed away on Monday, July 11th surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband for over 59 years of Martha A. (Miskell) White, who survives him.

Born in Lowell, MA, on March 26th, 1936, the son of the late Gerald M. and the late Margaret (Burke) White, he attended the Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1954.

Prior to his retirement after 46 years in the printing industry, Jerry worked as a Foreman for copy preparations at Sullivan Brothers Inc. and previously with the Courier Citizen. He was also a member of the Pressman Union, #109.

A longtime member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks, Jerry also loved Boston sports especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

Besides his wife, Jerry is survived by a son John L. White and his wife Danielle of Methuen, MA; two daughters: Ellen M. Ward and her husband David of Tewksbury, MA, and Julie A. Breen and her husband Thomas of Tyngsboro, MA; six grandchildren Ashleigh Elizabeth MacKenzie and her husband Stephen of Westwood, MA, John David Ward of Tewksbury, MA, Shannon Taylor White of Tewksbury, MA, Jared Colin Ward of Tewksbury, MA, Peter Gerald Breen of Tyngsboro, MA, and Molly Elisabeth Breen of Tyngsboro, MA; a brother Leo White and his wife Lynne of Lowell, MA; a sister-in-law Jeanne White of Houston, Texas.

Jerry is predeceased by his siblings Sister Marilyn White of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, Robert E. White, and the nephew of the late Father Leo Burke.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his grandson John David Ward for his exceptional care to his grandfather.

Joseph E. “Jay” Handley

Beloved Brother, and uncle;


Joseph E. “Jay” Handley, 64, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, July 6th at Tufts New England Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Exeter, New Hampshire on August 2nd, 1957, the son of the late John M. and the late Gertrude A. (McKeon) Handley, Jr., he attended Chelmsford Schools and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School in the class of 1975.

Jay was a co-owner and operator at the Chelmsford Gift and Basket Shop for over 40 years, where he started working at a young age. He and his brother, Jack also operated many successful retail businesses in various locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He was a member of the Chelmsford Business Association.

He had a love for reading, traveling, watching historic documentaries, classical music, spending time with his many friends and acquaintances, and time that was spent near the ocean or on the beach.

Jay is survived by a brother and his partner John M. “Jack” Handley III of Westford, MA; a sister Julie A. Handley and her husband Charles Hoar of Brighton, MA; and six nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jane M. Carrigg, who passed away in 2011.
